Learn how to get fit at Armand Bayou
A NEWS RELEASE FROM ARMAND BAYOU NATURE CENTER:
Where's the perfect place to combine fun, fitness and education? It's Armand Bayou Nature Center, located at 8500 Bay Area Boulevard in Pasadena, TX.
The nature center's September Second Saturday, Hit the Trails: Getting Outdoors for Fun and Fitness" is all about the importance of being fit while enjoying nature. Hiking one or all of the four trails at the center is a great way to begin. Bring the family on Saturday, September 11 from 10:00 am 12 noon to learn more about enjoying the outdoors while getting fit.
Christus St. John Hospital, Nassau Bay is partnering with ABNC on the event, making for a perfect fit for this month's topic. Hospital personnel will set up fitness stations and offer health screenings. This is a great opportunity to learn important information about your blood pressure, BMI (Body mass index, a measure of body fat based on height and weight), grip strength, stretching and flexibility.
The two-hour Saturday morning event provides a wide variety of activities all geared toward getting fit while enjoying a touch of Mother Nature. Dr. John Cottingham, Family Practice physician from League City speaks about the overall health benefits of being outside.
Kids get a jump on fitness through activities that are so much fun they won't realize they are exercising or learning. For a new touch to a familiar activity, Sandy Parker, ABNC volunteer, gives an outdoor yoga demonstration.
Other local organizations and businesses also participate as Bay Area Fit, a group of runners and walkers of all abilities, provides information about their organization. On the Run, an athletic shoe and clothing store on Bay Area Boulevard, offers store coupons and talks about proper shoe choices and fit. As the weather slowly begins to turn cooler after a long, hot summer, this is the perfect time to hit the trails and get fit."
Each month the nature center helps the community reconnect with nature in family-friendly ways. Be a part of the fun as ABNC brings you another exciting Second Saturday event in September. Admission to Second Saturday is free to members, $3 for non-member adults and $1 for children 4-12 and seniors 60 and older. For more information, phone 281-474-2551.
