Volunteer pilots, gardeners needed
The following volunteer opportunities are available through Volunteer Houston Bay Area, which can be reached at 281-282-6035 or www.volunteerhouston.org:
Private pilots needed
A regional pilots' network is recruiting volunteer pilots to use their own planes to fly ambulatory medical outpatients from outlying areas to any of several greater Houston area airports, including airports in Baytown and southeast Houston, where other volunteers will take them to their medical appointments or temporary lodgings.
Expenses incurred by pilots are tax deductible.
Social service agency needs help
A social service agency that helps Pasadena and Deer Park families who are experiencing economic hardship needs volunteers who can commit three hours a week on Tuesdays or Thursdays. The assignment includes training that will equip volunteers to assess clients' needs and, when appropriate, authorize tangible assistance with food, clothing or financial aid.
Exchange program needs host homes
Host families are needed by a program that places high school students from other countries in local high schools. Students speak English and have their own spending money.
Gardeners needed at learning center
Volunteer gardeners are needed at an environmental learning center north of Baytown. The center comprises 2,800 acres of widely varying terrain and ecosystems. Gardeners will attend to vegetative areas visited during guided tours of the area, and help maintain habitats tailored to the needs of butterflies, birds and other wildlife.
