Portable planetarium coming to Armand Bayou

Stargazers will get a chance to visit a portable planetarium on Saturday, July 10, at Armand Bayou Nature Center.
The Lunar and Planetary Institute is setting up its Starlab as part of the nature center's Second Saturdays series. Between 10 a.m. and noon, visitors will be to step inside the dome and see the North American night sky, then go on to explore more space activities, including space crafts.
Visitors will learn for themselves how wildly inaccurate most museums' models of the solar system are. To demonstrate how far it really is between planets, hikers will be able to walk from planet to planet on a scale model of the solar system on the nature center's trails. Along the way, they'll be able to see just how much bigger Jupiter is than Earth.
Admission to Second Saturday events is free to members of Armand Bayou Nature Center. Non-members pay $3 for adults and $1 for children 4-12 and seniors 60 and older.
