Power outage forces students from elementary

By DALE LEZON
Students are being sent home from a Pasadena elementary school after a small electrical fire knocked out power at two neighboring campuses.
The incident occurred about 9 a.m. at Stuchbery Elementary School at 11210 Hughes Road in the Pasadena Independent School District, officials said.
Power was knocked out at the campus and at nearby Thompson Intermediate School.
No injuries were reported.
Officials said an electrical short occurred in a vent fan in the kitchen at Stuchbery, cutting power to the campuses. Both schools have summer programs for students.
Students were evacuated from Stuchbery because smoke had to be cleared from the building. They stood outside and district officials decided to contact parents to pick up their children because it is not known when power can be restored or students allowed back into the building.
Students remained inside at Thompson and they are not expected to be sent home.
Parents can call Stuchbery at 713-740-0752 to get more information.
