Robotics team wins trophy at state competition
The Bonnette Junior High School Robotics Team returned from the Texas Computer Education Association State Robotics Contest with a third place trophy, marking the first time a robotics team from Deer Park has placed at the state competition.
The contest, which was held May 15 in Seguin, consisted of 51 teams from across the state that advanced in district and area contests.
The Bonnette team Dillon Chandler, Seth Price, Jonah Davis, and Nikolas Ontaneda, sponsored by David Grantham and John Matusek also is the two-time defending District Robotics Champion and two-time Area Runner-Up.
These four young men have spent countless hours after school building and programming their robot to accomplish the set objective," Grantham said.
During the competition, the robot completed the task perfectly all three rounds. Had we touched the game pieces first, we would have received the one point during round two and three to have a perfect score."
The team placed third in the competition with scores of 501, 500, and 500. A perfect score is 501.
