HEB Announces 2013 Excellence in Education Healthy Campus grant recipients
HEB announced the 12 recipients of its $15,000 Healthy Campus Grant, a part of the program for the chain's Excellence in Education Awards.
The supermarket chain has given awards for outstanding leadership and teaching to teachers, principals, superintendents and campuses for more than a decade. The campus category was added two years ago to recognize campuses interested in the improvement of health and wellness within the school community.
Each of the 12 winners will receive a three-year, $15,000 grant that will be used for the enhancement of existing health and fitness programs or to start new ones.
A panel of fitness and nutrition experts from The Oliver Foundation, ACTIVE Life, Texas Department of State Health Services and the Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance selected the Health Campus recipients.
Glover Elementary School, in the Fort Bend ISD, and Atkinson Elementary School, in the Pasadena ISD, were selected for the grant.
HEB began the Excellence in Education Awards program in 2002, with the cooperation of the Texas Association of School Administrators.
