Deer Park football takes on League City Clear Creek at Abshier Stadium
Deer Park High School will try to bounce back on the football field this week when it takes on League City Clear Creek in a 7 p.m. game Friday, Sept. 14 at Abshier Stadium.
The Deer (1-1) lost 46-19 to Spring on Sept. 6. Deer Park fell behind 21-7 in the first quarter and managed only 181 yards. It allowed 537.
Conner Means threw for 133 yards and one touchdown. Josh Rutherford caught the scoring strike and finished his night with five catches for 121 yards.
Clear Creek is 2-0 after rolling to a 34-14 win over Humble-Kingwood on Sept. 7. The Wildcats, who led 24-14 at halftime, churned out 504 yards and held Kingwood to 160 yards.
Jarrett Hildreth delivered for the Wildcats, throwing for 373 yards and two touchdowns on 24-of-36 passing. Kaliq Kokuma rushed for 81 yards and one touchdown.
Deer Park will next play Dickinson on Friday, Sept. 21 and Port Arthur Memorial on Friday, Sept. 28. It will then play at Baytown Sterling on Thursday, Oct. 4. All three games will begin at 7 p.m.
Clear Creek will next play at Sterling on Friday, Sept. 21 in a 7 p.m. game and at Clear Lake on Saturday, Sept. 29 in a 6 p.m. game. The Wildcats will then play Clear Falls on Saturday, Oct. 6 in a 6 p.m. game.
