Clear Lake United Methodist, Clear Lake Baptist to co-host annual 'Meet the Composer' event
American composer Joseph Martin will be featured during this year's 11th annual Meet the Composer Weekend Sept. 15-16. At 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, Clear Lake Baptist will present "An Evening with Joseph and Sue Martin" in the church sanctuary, located at 15700 Space Center Blvd. in Houston. A second concert, highlighting Festival Choir Service with Joseph Martin and the combined choirs of CLBC, CLUMC and other Bay Area churches, will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16 in the Clear Lake United Methodist sanctuary, located at 16335 El Camino Real in Houston. Both performances are free, but donations will be accepted. Martin will also join both churches for worship on Sept. 16. The Clear Lake Baptist Church service is at 10:15 a.m. and the Clear Lake United Methodist Church service is at 11 a.m. Both services are open to everyone. Martin is a native of North Carolina and has a bachelor's degree in piano performance from Furman University and a master's degree in piano performance from the University of Texas. Previously, he taught for five years in the Piano Pedagogy Department of the University of Texas. While at Furman University he was accompanist for the choral director, which inspired him to compose, according to the press release. He now resides in Austin with his wife and two children.
