Deer Park defeats Clear Lake in high school football opener

Deer Park came into Veterans Stadium fired up for the opening high school football game of the season, and silenced the home crowd with a 29-6 win over Clear Lake on Friday, Aug. 31.

Coach Chris Massey was pleased with the Deer's effort, watching them take a 15-0 halftime lead. 

Tim Espinoza began the scoring with a sack and safety. On the ensuing possession, Jacob Hickman grabbed an eight-yard pass from Conner Means to give the Deer a 9-0 lead.

Conner Means than rushed for a one-yard TD to end the half.

Means also threw for 164 yards and three touchdowns in the game. Caleb Martin also took some snaps from the quarterback position, hitting 5-of-8 passes for 48 yards.

Eric Luna grabbed seven receptions for 118 yards, including two touchdowns. 

Deer Park will look to keep the winning going at a visit to Spring on Friday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m.

Clear Lake fell to 0-1 and looks to turn things around for coach Troy Aduddell when it visits Memorial on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m.

The Falcons were led by Cameron Njeri, who rushed for 70 yards on 19 carries.
