La Porte Police Department offers summer safety camp

The La Porte Police Department will offer summer child safety camps for area youth in July and August.

These Saturday camps, which last from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., are intended for children between the ages of 5-9.

Animal safety, stranger danger, crosswalk and seat belt safety will be featured during the Saturday, July 21 camp at the Jennie Riley Civic Center, located at 322 N. Fourth St.

Fire safety, emergency situations, seat checks and immunizations will be covered during the July 28 camp at La Porte Fire Training Field, located at 12201 N. C St.

Water and gun safety will be the topics of the Aug. 11 class, which will be held at the La Porte Senior Center, located at 1322 S. Broadway. This class offers children the chance to walk from the classroom to the wave pool, by way of the city trail. Adults are required to supervise their children during this class.

The last camp will be a bike rodeo that takes place on Aug. 18 at Pecan Park, located at 3600 Canada Road. Each attendee will receive a free bicycle helmet.

To register for these camps or for more information, contact Officer Yvonne Stanley at 281-830-5208 or stanleyy@laportetx.gov.
