A new agreement between San Jacinto College and the University of Texas at Dallas gives students another option for transferring credits.

Starting this summer semester, San Jacinto students are eligible for transfer to UTD through the university's Comet Connection program. Students meeting UTD admission requirements, or completing an associate of arts or an associate of science degree with at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA receive automatic admission to UTD.

Those who would like to enter the UTD honors program must have at least a 3.5 GPA.

"We are always working to create and improve career and academic pathways for our students; agreements like this one with the University of Texas at Dallas allow our students to transfer easily and successfully to a university," said Chris Duke, San Jacinto College director of curriculum and assessment, in a news release.

A benefit for students transferring through Comet Connection is automatic enrollment in the UTD Guaranteed Tuition Program, which locks in the current year's tuition rates at the time of joining the program. Students also have access to the pre-health resource center and pre-law advising events.

Any student who would like to transfer to UTD before completing an associate degree at San Jacinto College and who has also earned at least 32 credit hours, can have courses completed at UTD reverse-transfer back into the associate degree program at San Jacinto College and be awarded an associate degree at no cost.
