Clear Creek ISD releases preliminary TAKS, STAAR results

Clear Creek Independent School District has released the preliminary results of the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) and the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) tests.

According to STAAR results, 97 percent of Clear Creek ISD students passed the biology test and 71 percent passed the English I writing test.

The state is currently determining what the passing requirements will be for STAAR, as it did with TAAS and TAKS tests. During this time, students and educators will be adjusting to the assessments and working to fill higher performance expectations.

Students who failed a STAAR test will have the opportunity to retake it in July.

Students in grade 9 and below pursuing the Recommended High School Program or the Distinguished Achievement graduation program must meet state standards on 15 end-of-course tests to earn a high school diploma. Students following the minimum graduation plan must meet state standards on 11 tests.

Passing rates for end-of-course tests at CCISD High School were 97 percent in biology, 94 percent in world geography, 94 percent in algebra, 84 in reading and 72 in writing.

Students who failed the test may be asked to attend summer school or require significant instructional intervention support during the following school year.

At the elementary and intermediate level, passing standards for tests will not be set until fall 2012 and will not be made available to districts until 2013.

STAAR tests are designed for students in grades 3-9, while the TAKS test is for students in grades 10 and 11. Passing the TAKS test is a requirement for students in the classes of 2013 and 2014 to graduate.

Passing rates for grade 10 were 96 percent in English language arts, 98 percent in social studies, 97 percent in mathematics and 91 percent in science.

Results for grade 11 were 97 percent in English, 100 percent in social studies, 96 percent in mathematics and 98 percent in science.
