Maricarmen Medina recently was awarded a $10,000 scholarship to pursue an education in accounting and business at Texas A&M University.
A member of the National Honors Society, Medina received the award from financial management firm Houston Asset Management.
“I wanted to help my parents financially and applied for the scholarship when one of my counselors encouraged it,” said Medina, in a press release. “I was so excited to learn I received the scholarship after completing the essay and interviewing at the firm with the partners and clients.”
Houston Asset Management invites students from Houston and surrounding school districts interested in accounting or business to compete for the annual scholarship. The award includes an invitation to intern at the firm during the student’s junior or senior year.
“Maricarmen is a very impressive student with such a positive attitude about the focus of her education,” said Bob Frater, the firm’s CEO. “She is inspired by her grandparents’ hard work and tenacity and learned at a young age that you can be successful with those traits. She is determined that her education will lead to a career where she can provide services to help entrepreneurs succeed.”
Medina is a firm believer in setting goals. “There is always a way to make something happen if you work hard enough and you are motivated,” she said. “When you try hard, and put time and effort into something, it shows.”
Houston Asset Management has awarded more than $42,000 in scholarships, made possible by donations from the firm and clients who participate in an annual golf tournament.
