Assistance League scholarships send kids to summer programs

Thanks to scholarships from the Assistance League of the Bay Area, 78 area elementary school students will get the chance to attend University of Houston-Clear Lake's Kids U, a summer enrichment program.
Scholarships totaling more than $10,600 will help children from Clear Creek, La Porte, Friendswood and Dickinson independent school districts participate in the summer educational programs, which include weeklong courses ranging from robotics to poetry.
The Kids U summer camp scholarships help at-risk students gain access to fun and stimulating environments to keep them learning during the months when school is not in session.
Assistance League of the Bay Area is a chapter of the National Assistance League. The group is dedicated to improving the quality of at-risk-populations through community-based philanthropic programs.
