UH-Clear Lake geographer receives Department of Homeland Security fellowship
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has awarded University of Houston-Clear Lake assistant geography professor Deanna Schmidt with a summer research fellowship to study post-disaster housing.
Schmidt will lead a team in North Carolina on a research project titled "Housing Recovery and Resilience: Assessing the Constraints and Facilitators of Post-Disaster Housing Recovery in Vulnerable Coastal Communities."
The award provides more than $14,000 to Schmidt for the project and provides funding for two UH-Clear Lake students to join the research staff.
Schmidt and her team will examine what coastal communities need to address housing issues following a major natural disaster. They will be collaborating with Homeland Security and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
For more information, contact Schmidt at schmidtD@uhcl.edu or call 281-283-3394.
