Credit union, schools partner to raise funds for shelters
The Furthering Community Unity Team powered by Shell Federal Credit Union has raised more than $4,800 for local shelters and volunteered more than 300 hours.
One way in which the FCU raised funds was through the BP MS 150, a 150-mile bike ride from Houston to Austin. Three employees from the FCU participated and raised $2,039 with the help of the employees, members and community.
The team also raised $1,600 for arthritis research by raffling off prime parking spots among the staff and selling candy grams.
Recently, the FCU Team hosted its annual Everyone's Gotta Eat food drive through Thursday, May 31. The collected food will be donated to local food pantries and animal shelters.
The FCU Team also partnered with local elementary schools and asked students to bring in at least one item to donate. The schools included San Jacinto Elementary, Deer Park; Rizzuto Elementary, La Porte; Parr Elementary, Webster; Fairmont Elementary, Pasadena; Morales Elementary, Pasadena; and Jessup Elementary, Pearland.
In July, the FCU Team will be kicking off its annual Supplies for Students school supplies drive.
