Scholarship helps student to excel in music, academics
San Jacinto College (SJC) music student Zach Golden, winner of the Noel Wilkins Memorial Scholarship, practices on a harpsichord.
San Jacinto College Central music student Zach Golden has been awarded the Noel Wilkins Memorial Scholarship.
Established by the San Jacinto College Foundation in memory of Noel Wilkins, a longtime SJC music professor who passed away in 2006, the scholarship goes to students who audition and have an outstanding academic record.
A member of the Phi Theta Kappa national honor society, Golden holds a 3.6 GPA. Upon earning his associate’s degree in music from SJC, he plans to attend the University of North Texas, where he will be an organ performance and church music major. He hopes to work as a choirmaster at a local church and eventually complete a graduate program in organ performance and take some courses overseas. Golden is the music director and organist at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Houston.
The next audition for the Noel Wilkins Scholarship will be June 23. To schedule an appointment or for more information, call Dr. Martha Braswell at 281-476-1501, ext. 1603.
