SJC grant to help PolyOne workers upgrade skills
San Jacinto College recently received a grant from the Texas Workforce Commission to upgrade the skill levels of PolyOne Corp. employees.
According to a press release, SJC received $87,808 from the Skills Development Fund grant. The grant will allow the college to offer more courses for craftspeople who seek specialized skills to advance their careers.
PolyOne Corp. provides polymer materials, services and solutions.
The grant will allow for PolyOne employees to take intermediate courses in Microsoft Excel and Word; fire protection; first aid cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillation; hydraulic fundamentals; laser shaft alignment; root case analysis; seals, bearings, and lubrication; and scissor lift safety.
The TWC Skills Development Fund provides funding for Texas businesses and workers for job retention training and job creation.
"TWC makes these grants available each year, helping hundreds of Texas employers and thousands of workers succeed," TWC Chairman Tom Pauken said. "We take pride in the fact that we can continue to provide businesses a ready and skilled work force."
