Last weekend, the Lesbian Health Initiative of Houston’s Celebration of Love Gala 2012 celebrated anniversaries and long-term relationships and honored Dorothy Gibbons for continued her partnership with LHI.

Dorothy Gibbons, CEO and co-founder of The Rose, has worked with LHI for more than 14 years, providing breast health services and certificates for screenings at LHI Health Fairs. The Rose is a nonprofit organization that provides breast cancer services and support to all women, regardless of income.

Breast cancer survivors introduced Gibbons and thanked her for her advocacy of women’s health and all the work she does with LHI.

More than 350 guests came together at the Doubletree in downtown Houston and marked 20 years of LHI’s benefiting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender-identified women in preventing disease and promoting health. The gala, now in its 10th year, raised more than $55,000 to assist in providing education, access and awareness programs.

Scottie Scott was named the LHI Volunteer of the Year for her 20 years of commitment and as an organizer who assisted in the formation of the Breast Health Collective.
