Houston police find woman's body in submerged vehicle

Houston police believe a body found in submerged vehicle Wednesday is an elderly woman missing since October.

Positive identification of the female driver is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. However, police said evidence at the scene has lead officers to believe the driver is 82-year-old Lillian High.

Sgt. G. Hall and senior officers A. Taylor of the Vehicle Crimes Division, said members of the police department dive team were training in a retention pond in the 10500 block of Freehill at about 9:05 Wednesday when they discovered a submerged vehicle. After the Dodge Avenger was removed from the water, the body, believed to be High, was found inside.

According to Hall and Taylor’s report, the driver failed to maintain a single lane and drove off the road into the pond.
