La Porte Police Department unveils new D.A.R.E. car
The La Porte Police Department recently unveiled its new D.A.R.E. program vehicle at the La Porte Airplane and Car Show.
The 2010 Dodge Charger was purchased new using money seized from drug dealers and outfitted through donations of products and services from businesses in and around La Porte.
The car’s most notable feature is the custom paint job depicting features of La Porte as well as real-to-life images of emergency responders at work within the community.
“This car is designed to draw and keep the attention of the D.A.R.E. program's target audience, and it really showcases the City of La Porte,” said Chief of Police Ken Adcox in a press release. “We are really proud of it and grateful to the many area businesses that helped bring this car to life.”
The vehicle has been modified to accommodate full-service police duty. It is also equipped with a full mobile theater, located in the trunk, where educational program videos can be shown.
The D.A.R.E. car will be piloted by La Porte Police Department's D.A.R.E. Officer Yvonne Stanley. Stanley is a 16-year veteran of the La Porte Police Department and has served a total of 12 years as the city’s primary D.A.R.E. officer.
