Football: Offense key to Memorial's struggles
Pasadena Memorial is 1-4 for the first time in program history, which stretches back to the inaugural varsity season in 2004, and it's not hard to see why - the offense is struggling to move the ball. Third-string RB Adrian Boutte suffered a high ankle sprain against Clements on the opening kickoff and hasn't played since, and fullbacks Ahrom McLeod and Justin Acosta also have been out since Week 0. The lack of a run also has hurt the Mavericks' passing game, as opponents drop more defenders back in coverage. Quarterback Greg Gallardo has one touchdown to seven interceptions. Outside of the Channelview game, the defense has played well, but it is wearing down at the end of games because it's seeing 70 to 80 plays per game. Unfortunately, the offense managed just two field goals against the Mustangs after their best outing the week before against the Stingarees.
