ADT Security blamed for attack, robbery in Pasadena

An ADT Security customer is suing over claims the company’s system failed to sound the alarm when two intruders woke her from her sleep, punched her in the face, and robbed her of personal items and money.

Guadalupe Cabrera filed a lawsuit on Aug. 26 in the Harris County District Court against ADT Security Services, citing violations of the Deceptive Trade Practices Act, breach of warranty, common law fraud, negligence, gross negligence and breach of contract.

Cabrera says that on Oct. 19, 2010 the ADT security system she purchased to protect her Pasadena-area home failed to alert police when two suspects broke into her home, woke her from her sleep, punched her repeatedly in the face, and robbed her of personal items and money. The attack and robbery lasted well over 30 minutes, according to the press release.

The suit alleges that shortly before the robbery, in September 2010, ADT assured Cabrera that the security system was online and functioning, but she later learned the system had been disconnected.

Cabrera is seeking damages, attorney’s fees and court costs. She is being represented in the case by Houston attorney Joe Perdue.
