Deer Park employee blames Memorial contractor for workplace accident at Third Ward hospital
A Deer Park employee is suing a Memorial construction company after, he says, he was injured when lax job processes at a Third Ward job site caused a pipe to explode.
Javier Torres filed a lawsuit on Aug. 8 in Harris County District Court against J.T. Vaughn Construction, with corporate offices in Memorial, citing negligence and gross negligence.
Torres, a Deer Park Mobley Industrial Services employee, says that on July 19, 2010, he suffered serious bodily injuries when a pipe exploded on a construction site within Third Ward’s Texas Medical Center. According to the brief, Vaughn Construction’s failure to coordinate work between subcontractors and to perform proper safety checks resulted in the depressurized pipe explosion.
Torres is seeking actual, compensatory and punitive damages, as well as attorney’s fees and court costs. He is being represented in the case by Houston attorney Robert Ammons.
