Deer Park grad Mariza Martinez homers twice against Missouri
Deer Park High School graduate Mariza Martinez was stellar as the Mean Green softball team snapped Missouri's 24-game winning streak with a 9-2 victory on Wednesday night at Lovelace Stadium. The No. 11 Tigers defeated North Texas, 4-1, in the first game of the doubleheader.
Mariza Martinez hit her second home run of the day to put North Texas ahead, 3-1, in game two. She posted the Mean Green's only run in the opening loss.
In game two, Martinez went one-for-one with three runs scored and two RBIs. Her one hit was her fourth home run of the season.
In game one, Martinez went two-for-three with a run scored and a run driven in. She belted her third home run of the year in the loss.
Martinez, a senior outfielder, is second on the team in total bases, triples, walks, and on base percentage.
Martinez played at Deer Park from 2003-2007, where she was a two-time First-Team All-District honoree as well as a four-year letter winner. She was also named Offensive MVP in 2006-2007. In 2004-2005 Martinez earned Second-Team All-District honors. She is the daughter of Louis and Nancy Martinez.
