SE Houston man dies after rescue from house fire
A 62-year-old man died at a hospital Saturday morning, shortly after firefighters pulled him from his burning home in southeast Houston.
The man, who was not identified, was discovered on the floor of his kitchen in the 2100 block of Lamina, said Michelle McLeod, assistant chief for the Houston Fire Department.
A neighbor, a retired Houston firefighter, saw the back side of the house ablaze around 5:45 a.m. and called 911.
Firefighters launched a fast attack and conducted a primary search, finding the man unresponsive. They performed CPR en route to Memorial Hermann Hospital-The Texas Medical Center, but the man, who lived alone, died shortly after arrival.
Investigators do not yet know what caused the blaze, but it started in a spare bedroom, McLeod said.
