Police officer hurt in midnight-hour crash on Gulf Fwy.

A Houston police officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries after his vehicle collided with a pickup truck and slammed into a concrete retraining wall while the officer was trying to stop a speeder on Interstate 45 on Thursday night.

The collision occurred in the 8400 block of the northbound Gulf Freeway near Howard about 11:50 p.m., police said.

The officer was taken to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center. Police did not reveal his injuries, but said they were minor.

His condition was not released.

No other injuries were reported.

The officer was traveling northbound on the freeway when the pickup driver attempted to change lanes in front of him. The officer’s vehicle hit the rear of the truck and then hit the wall.

Police said the motorist who was allegedly speeding was found, and police did not release how far the motorist may have been from the crash.

No tickets have been issued. Police are investigating the crash.
