Web company processes Pasadena's crash reports
A North Carolina company called PoliceReports.US has been helping the
Pasadena Police Department distribute accident reports since May 2010.
Pasadena PD is one of 98 Texas law-enforcement agencies that uses the
service, says PoliceReports.US Project Manager Debi Starks, who grew up in
The Woodlands.
"The reason why it's so advantageous to agencies is that it cuts down on the
workload in the records department," Starks says, adding that the service
has processed 2,263 reports since Pasadena signed up with it in May 2010.
Right now, people primarily use the site to obtain copies of accident
reports for insurance or medical purposes. Like most searches on the site,
the Pasadena PD page requires the
searcher to enter a report number, date, and/or name. "People can't just go
in there and have a field day like they're reading the National Enquirer,"
Starks says.
The site makes some of its money through user fees, Starks says. Insurance
companies can set up pre-paid accounts with the site.
Other Houston-area agencies using the site include Bellaire Police, Houston
Metro Police, Tomball Police, and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.
