HS football preview: Pasadena Dobie v. Beaumont West Brook
Pasadena Dobie will break its six-year playoff drought traveling to Beaumont to face the West Brook Bruins in the District 5A football playoffs on Saturday night.
And they Longhorns will be an underdog, according to Texasfootball.com, which picks them to be one and done.
Head Coach Jim Phillips has led the Longhorns to an 8-2 record during the regular season. His team averages 7 yards on the ground and more than 16 yards per catch on offense.
Senior Demarcus Boyd leads the rushing game. He had 144 carries for 1,326 yards and 15 touchdowns this year. Davion Hurst, a senior, leads the receivers with 13 catches for 292 yards and four touchdowns.
Dual threat junior quarterback Blake Jackson has thrown for 853 yards on the season and nine touchdowns. The 5 foot 10 inch, 195 pounder has also run for 578 yards and nine more.
The Bruins (7-3) average 6 yards on the ground and 14 yards per catch.
They lost to undefeated Katy 45-21 on Sept. 18, a game in which they lost their starting quarterback, Bruce Reyes, to a shoulder injury in the first half.
Saturday's kick off is at 1 p.m. at Beaumont ISD Thomas Center.
