Dobie upends Memorial in district play
Demarcus Boyd rushed for three touchdowns and had 175 rushing yards finishing with an average of 8.8 yards per carry as Dobie picked up their third consecutive victory breezing by Memorial 31-7 Thursday night at Veterans Stadium.
Memorial stars Thaddeus Stewart and Nathan Mourik were denied by the Dobie defense.
Stewart came into the contest averaging more than 130 rushing yards per game and finished with 15 while standout receiver Mourik came into the game with six touchdown receptions and finished failing to score.
Dobie improves to 5-2 while Memorial moves to 3-4 on the season.
The Mavericks were first to get on the board when Jacobi Hopkins broke free for a 19-yard touchdown run giving Memorial a 7-0 first quarter lead after Memorial kicker John Lopez tacked on the extra point.
Dobie answered with back to back touchdown runs in the second quarter by Demarcus Boyd and Andrew Robinson who finished with 141 rushing yards giving the Longhorns a 14-7 halftime lead.
Boyd scored his second touchdown, a 41-yard sprint, early in the third quarter then added his third touchdown run, a one-yard scamper, with five minute remaining in the game.
Longhorns kicker Douglas Leighton was a perfect three of three on his extra point attempts and booted a 19-yard field goal with under one minute remaining to make the final score 31-7 Dobie.
Dobie faces Rayburn October 23 while Memorial faces Deer Park October 22.
