Pasadena High School graduate Frank Young was named Pasadena's Distinguished Alumnus on April 10.
Young was honored for his many international accomplishments in theater. He graduated from Pasadena High in 1958 and went on to work on more than 300 musicals. Young founded Theatre Under the Stars in 1968 and the National Alliance for Musical Theater in 1985.
He was also the first person to receive Houston's Leadership in the Arts Award, was named one of TheatreWeek's “100 Most Powerful People in Theatre,” and received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the American Federation of Musicians.
A bronze plaque was presented to the alumnus as well as gift baskets of memorabilia from the Houston schools he attended.
“We honor someone who has given years of service to our community and to the theater, someone who has attained mastery in all aspects of the theater,” Superintendent of Pasadena Independent School District Kirk Lewis said in a press release.
The ceremony was held at Pasadena High School, located at 1515 Cherrybrook Lane.
